Community Services

A career in Community Services is a life-giving career for those who want to make a difference and help people; during challenging and stressful times in their lives. Womens refuges, hospitals, drug rehabilitation centres, community houses and local government community development projects are all common employment options for community services graduates. Qualifications in this field can lead to a career in aged care, nursing, youth work, education support and childrens services.

Curtin VTEC also offer courses to progress your career, with qualifications in Training and Assessment, Children's Services and Occupational Health and Safety.

Health Care


Health care workers make a real difference to the comfort, care and independence of patients every day, working in private or public hospitals, community nursing homes, GP clinics, immunisation clinics, industry, schools, prisons, community health clinics and in research positions.

Enrolled Nurses work under the supervision of a Registered Nurse and duties may include: personal hygiene care for patients, monitoring a patients vital signs, complex wound dressings, administration of medications, admission and discharge of patients, assisting in theatre, reporting, documentation, assisting the doctor with medical procedures. As a skills shortage area, nursing graduates have excellent employment prospects. Successful completion of an Enrolled Nursing qualification allows you to up-skill by providing one year credit towards a Registered Nurse University qualification, saving time and money.

Aged Care


Aged Care graduates will find their typical work day is filled with enriching experiences as they contribute to the care of the senior members of our community. An ageing population means that jobs in aged care are plentiful. Many students find that a qualification in aged care is an ideal stepping stone to a career in nursing. Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) may be available for those already working in the aged care industry.

Occupational Health and Safety


OSH is a key priority area in workplaces nationally. As all workers must adhere by OSH standards, an understanding of OSH practices and requirements will increase your employability and promotional opportunities. VTEC OSH graduates can enjoy significant financial and professional rewards, having specialised in this area of expertise. Our programs cover systems safety management, legislative requirements and obligations, hazard and risk management.

Education Support


The education industry is evolving and opportunities to work in this field are more diverse and stimulating than ever before. A career in education can develop your own skills as well as provide an ideal work/life balance for those with school aged children. Education support graduates can work in primary or secondary schools, facilitating learning experiences for children in kindergarten through to high school teenagers seeking stimulating and challenging learning in their school environment.

Training and Assessment


A training and assessment qualification will provide you with the skills and opportunities to train and assess people to start, advance or change careers. This qualification is commonly used for people whose main role is to deliver and assess training in a workplace or learning environment. You will learn how to design and develop learning programs and resources to support delivery. You will also learn how to plan and organise assessment, design and develop assessment tools and assess competency in a vocational, training and education environment. Completion of the Certificate IV in Training & Assessment provides employment opportunities in a range of settings such as public and private registered training organisations, industry coaches and mentors, off-shore trainers and professional development officers.

Children's Services

Career opportunities involve nanny work, day care centres, outside school hours care or even running your own home based day care centre. You will develop the skills needed for supervising indoor and outdoor activities for children, welcoming parents, preparing snacks and handling payments.
